Pole Dancing An Olympic Sport?

As I'm drinking my morning Diet Dr Pepper, watching FOX & Friends News (the best "F&B" news ever)and I am about to spit out my drink because Brian is reporting the above title. The question was "Should Pole Dancing be an Olympic Sport in the year 2016?" Of course Brian being a typical man, he was all for it. He is so crazy and I think making a little fun of the proposed sporting category. Then, they announced the world renowned Cambridge University (UK) is offering Pole Dancing lessons to students and possibly giving out scholarships.

According to NY Daily News, the university wants to offer the lessons to all young female students in order to relieve stress at high pressure Cambridge.

Brisbane Times reports that the university spokesperson doesn't find this type of dance to be "degrading" and they find women that want to take these classes are a way of "empowering women as well as being a fantastic way to exercise."

So what about the title question? Where does it go from an extracurricular activity to an Olympic sport? Well, in a write up from The Independent, a UK online news reporter, tells the emotional and exciting story about Japan's Mai Sato. During this past Winter Olympics, Sato watched all the athletes receiving their medals and wishes that Pole Dancing would became an Athletic Event. "Sato knows the demands of being the best. In her world, blisters are the rule, bruises a way of life. And the training — five hours a day, five days a week."

"The world champion in her sport, Sato is as athletic, dedicated and competitive as the Olympians representing their nations. And she thinks it's high time her discipline, too, got some real recognition."

"'I could definitely see pole dancing in the Olympics," said Sato, who, a dancer since the age of three, out-twirled a bevy of athletes from 11 countries at the second International Pole Dancing Fitness Championships in Tokyo two months ago. "I would love to win a gold medal.'"

So, what do you think? Should Pole Dancing finally get it's recognition as a sport and become an Olympic sport? Is it empowering women or just degrading us? Are we moving forward after the big women's movement or stepping back? You decided.

Com'on Down Rainman!

As you know last weekend, we limed and fertilized our yard real good. So with lots of rain and a prayer, we are hoping to rescue the grass we do have on our property. You have to remember that we had 3 big dogs in our back yard for 14 years, so the grass never had much of a chance. Until we were blessed with children, we only focused on our front yard because we knew not much could be done to the back yard (dogs).

We were told by our local farmers coop that since our property is surrounded by oak trees, this zaps the nutrients from our soil.  Hey here's an added bonus, the leaves from the oak trees are very acidic and the longer they are left on the ground the more acid is penetated into our soil; thus leaving us with no grass and more moss on the ground.  JOY!  In time, we hope to turn this around with what we've done thus far and plan on keeping it up in years to come.

With Springtime comes a lot of rain and thunderstorms.  My child, probably like any other child, is scared of a thunderstorm.  She said it's the thunder that scares her the most.  I remember my mom telling me as a child that when it thundered, it was God moving his furniture around.  A friend said when she was a child, her mother told her it was St. Peter bowling with the angels.  When it thundered that was God making a strike because He's on the angels' team and we should cheer "YAY for God!"  I thought that was so cute and wanted to share that tidbit with you.  What are your thunderstorm stories?  I'm really interested in hearing them.
Lots to do and running out of time to do it.

Colton's birthday update
As you know, I received the birthday supplies.  Well, it's taking me forever it seems like to get the invitations addressed.  It just seems like something always comes up and I have to put it aside.  I better not waste too much time because his birthday will be here before you know it.

I still haven't gotten the child anything for his birthday yet.  Walmart and Target doesn't have anything available that just jumps out in front of me.  We talked about getting a small ball pit to keep in the house because he LOVES balls.  He stays entertained for hours just throwing a ball around the Living Room.  I did find a hard plastic Tonka dump truck at Walmart online that you can pull up the bed; sit and push the truck around.  It also comes with a few lego blocks.  I also wanted to show Doug a battery operated ATV for children 1 1/2 years and older from Walmart online.  I think Alise had one of these when she was little.  I think it's around $75.  Stay tuned!

Katie's Ballet Recital
Katie's recital costume came in and we got to bring it home yesterday.  Yay!  It's so cute.  Mrs. Anna had all the children try on their costumes to make sure they fit properly, then they came down and showed us mommas.    I hope to take a few pictures this weekend of Katie with her recital costume.  Stay tuned to see the photos.

I don't know if Katie will be returning next ballet year.  She told me today that she still likes ballet, but she might want to do something else next year.  Today at school, Mr. Johnny from Triad Marital Arts came by the school and taught the children a few karate moves.  Katie seemed a little excited about it.  She showed me the moves at home.  I asked her if maybe she would like to take karate next year instead of ballet.  "Yeah" she answered.  I told her to think about it and we'll look at other things as well.  It would be an easy transition because the karate classes are next door to her ballet class.  Ha ha!

Beach Update
Y'all I'm so excited!  As you know, I've been searching hard and long for that perfect little white beach dress for Katiebug.  Yesterday, I lost to a bid on a beautiful Kate Mack dress.  It had pretty pink daisies all over the bodice part of the dress.  So precious!  I felt bad for bowing out, but there comes a point where you have to say "I'm not paying that."  In a way, it was a good thing because then I wouldn't have found "THE DRESS."  It's simple, but Katie and I like it and I didn't pay near the amount that I would have for the other Kate Mack.  The picture isn't all that clear, but here's a sneak peak:

It's a white Kate Mack dress with pink smocking at the bodice in a size 6.  Katie really likes the flowers on it.  I think it will look so cute on her, while taking beach pictures this Summer.

Jon's Baseball Game Photos
Below are a few pictures of us at Jon's baseball game.  We about froze to death, but it was a lot of fun.

Playing at the Park
Below are a few pictures of Katie and Colton playing at the park.  They loved it and I promised them that we would be going more since it's getting nice outside.
First time Colton's been on a slide
I was so relieved to finally see a fence around the playground area
First time Colton's on the trampoline.  He didn't know what to think about it.

He loved the sandbox.  As you can tell, he laughed nearly the whole time he was playing in it.

Katie wanted her picture taken with brother. Katie dressed herself.  Can you tell?

Katie Story
I don't know what is going on with our girls in Mrs. Katie's class. Apparently, everyone has to have a boyfriend in her class including our little Katiebug. Katie broke the news to me after picking her up today from school. She told me that Lilly told her that she had to have a different boyfriend, not Will. So, the next best thing is Ty. Ty is the only boy in her classroom. Poor thang! I asked her if everyone has to have a boyfriend. She answered, "oh, yes. Didn't you know that?" She started naming off all her girlfriends' boyfriends. Priceless! I asked her if Ty knew he was her new boyfriend. "Yes" she said. Then, I asked her if he liked her. "Yes" she answered. "Didn't you know that?" Ugh! My child. I have to remind myself on a daily basis that she's only 4 years old and not 14.

Girl, girl, girl . . . what am I going to do with you?

Katie Story
I had just put Colton down for a nap. He's a very light sleeper, so it's hard to keep things quiet around the house. I noticed Katie (all dressed up) was opening her bedroom door, slamming it, walking down the hallway, around the bar, back up the hallway and as she was going back inside her bedroom, she'd slam the door shut again. She did this about 4 times before I finally stopped her and asked her what she was doing. Very chalantly, she said she was going on a date with her boyfriend. Shocked, I asked her again. She acted as if I was bothering her, "I'm going out on a date with my boyfriend." Trying to hold back the laughter, calmly I asked her who her boyfriend was. Low and behold, she said it was "WILL." Oh, no! Will's not even 9 years old and he is already stealing my baby girl from me. HA HA! I thought that was cute and had to share it with you.

Natalie's Got Game
We went last night to see Natalie play her last basketball game for the year. It was homecoming, so there were lots going on. Chick-fil-a donated food to the players and gave out basketballs to the little kids, Katie got one. This little boy scared her half to death. Out of the blue, he came up to her and asked if she wanted a pom-pom. She got all shy and I guess didn't answer him. I couldn't understand the boy, but Doug said he was asking her if she was afraid of him. As we were heading out the door to leave, he came out with us and said,"you know you want one." Katie was ready for her daddy to hold her. The boy had to be around the age of 9 or 10 years. She didn't know how to respond to what just happened. Too funny! We got to see the Chick-fil-a cow and Wallace's Lion walking around, greeting the children. Katie appreciated them from a far. She likes characters, but not when they get up close and personal. Doug and I are the same way. She doesn't even like clowns, they freak her out.
Wallace cheerleaders, there were more, but wanted an up close photo
Shoot out!  No one made a hoop
I wished you could have seen this potato gun, a couple of students came out with during half time.  They were shooting t-shirts out to the fans in the stands with this gun.  They have "Goliath" written on the side of this gun.  LOL!  Trust me, it was a "GOLIATH."

Natalie's Fan Section
Wallace defeated Gadsden Women's team. Natalie did good, she just missed a couple shots that I could see. Whitney and Zayne came to watch, but instead was Katie's babysitter. Katie loves her "Wibby." She even be-friended a Gadsden fan (boy) that was sitting beside her. Whitney told me that Katie wouldn't leave him alone. I apologized to the boy, but he just smiled. He looked to be about 17-18 years old, pretty cute. Hey, at least my daughter has good taste. LOL!
Natalie Shoots, but didn't score
Wallace wins!

American Idol
When I have an opportunity to watch American Idol, I'm not too impressed. Saying that, I really do like Casey James, contestant. I agree with Kara, he is not only eye candy but ear candy. Agreeing with "Rick & Bubba," Doug was laughing at Casey singing. I didn't notice until it was pointed out to me, but there's a little shakiness to Casey's voice when he sings. "Rick & Bubba" pointed it out during their radio show and now Doug is calling Casey "goat boy." I just think that's harse. I mean, the guy can sing.

Winter Olympics
Did you see Kim Yu-Na? She is awesome to watch. I wouldn't be surprised if she took ballet as well because she has to be the most graceful and elegant skater out on the ice.  She absolutely deserved receiving the gold last night. I hated that I fell asleep before Mirai skated. I so wanted to see her because the media was really putting her up on a pedestal. I'm afraid, Kim will have to get more bodyguards when she returns to South Korea.

2010 Winter Olympics

Photobucket

2010 Winter Olympics Vancouver, British Columbia Canada February 12-28 NBC will be covering
I think I like the Winter Olympics much better than Summer. I like watching the Bobsledding Teams, Luge, Ski Competitions including Jumping, Alpine and Freestyle, and wowed by the Snowboarding. Since I was a little girl, I've always loved the couples Figure Skating. Below is a list of upcoming sporting events for this year's Winter Olympics, check it out: Let me know, what your favorites are.
Cooking Minds Whatta Know
Tomorrow is the BIG day. I plan to start making "Red Velvet Cake Bon-Bons" and "Oreo Kisses" tomorrow, while Katie is in school. I've already cut out my aluminum foil for the kisses. I would have loved to make the other Valentine desserts, but I have just a limited amount of time, money and weight control left. LOL! By the way, the weight loss is like a yo-yo. I'm not surprised!

I'm going to try my hand at the "Red Velvet Cake Bon-Bons" this time instead of the "Chocolate Cake Bon-Bons." Peggy asked me to make them, she wants to see how they taste. I love Red Velvet cake, so I'm sure it's delish! Betty Crocker sells a "Buttercream" and "Cream Cheese" icings, so I bought both because I couldn't decide which would taste better with the Red Velvet cake. I think I've decided to go with the cream cheese. I don't know. I might call Peggy and see what flavor she would prefer. I'm excited to see how they turn out. Of course, be looking for pictures of the finished product.
