Where Is My Little Adorable Baby Girl?

My sister, Sandy, warned me about how aliens will one day come down and suck the brains out of my children, to where you can't recognize them anymore. Well, I believe aliens have come down and did a body switch with my child. Why do I say that? It's because Katie has turned into this child that I don't know anymore. She wakes up cranky and whiny and goes to bed cranky and whiny. Grant it, I've let her go too long without cracking the whip and making her tow the line. What parent really does? Now that I'm in the condition that I'm in, seems to make things worse. What am I to do? On top of the whining and crying over nothing, I've been fighting her to take a nap. So far, she's winning! Then, she wants to take a nap at 6:00 p.m., which means she doesn't want to go to sleep until 10:30-11:00 p.m. Normally, I'd go with it, but now it not so easy because Doug puts her to bed at night. He likes to go to bed around 9:00 - 9:30 p.m. because he gets up around 4:45 in the mornings. I've been talking to my girlfriends about it and they said that they went through the same thing. In fact, Rachel's 4 year old little girl has refused to take a nap for several months now. Zoe, Rachel's daughter, won't take a nap during the day and argues with her because she wants to take her nap around 6:00 p.m. I've threatened and whipped Katie over the whining and throwing fits because I won't let her do something she wants to do. It's not working! As much as I don't want to do it, I'm going to have to go back to taking things away from her and not letting her do special things. On the way home from ballet, she asked me if she could watch "Little Einsteins" in the Living Room when we got home. Usually, I have no problem. I had my hands full coming into the house and right off the bat, she starts telling me to turn on "Little Einsteins" and she wants her drink. I told her "time out" because I had to unload the truck. She starts getting upset with me because she thought I was putting her in "time out". Ugh! I had to calm her down and explain what I meant. Of course, I was getting no where. So, I told her that I was in "time out". Well, she loved that idea. She began telling me that I had to sit down for 3 minutes and to be good. It didn't take long before she began throwing a fit because I wasn't fast enough. THAT'S IT! I had enough. I told her that she would not be watching "Little Einsteins" tonight and if she kept this attitude up, I might rethink the idea of her spending the night with Grandma Peggy and Papa Millard this weekend. I hate it, but somethings got to give because she is running all over us. She's out of control. Lord, please help me.

Uh-oh! It's on!

Alise seems to be out growing naps. Maybe Katie is going through the same thing?

I understand too. Anya has her moments where she wants things right
then. Anya hasn't taken daily naps though since she was 21 months old. And she goes to bed late too. That battle I gave up on because Travis enjoys having her up with him. Its their Daddy Daughter time. However,
I have found that if I can divert her attention to something different, we usually avoid tantrums and she has more patience. One thing that works great for Anya is giving treats to Chance, our dog, while I finish the things I need to do. We also do time outs for her and won't let her get up until she apologizes and gives us a hug. We have to remind her to say she's sorry and that takes time sometimes, but it eventually gets the point across to her. And she usually learns from it. Another thing I usually keep in mind is that its just a phase and this too shall pass. The problem we have now is now that I'm getting bigger I'm getting more tired and so I try to get a nap. Some days Anya lets me and some days the second I get my eyes closed she needs something else, a game, a drink, a new movie, a toy, etc.
I'll keep you in my prayers though, don't worry you'll get through it! Katie's a great girl!
