I haven't found a solution to the ice cream cones not becoming soft, but I did find another alternative. Since I'll be using the "Fancy Nancy Bonjour, Butterfly" book as a centerpiece, I found a recipe from Betty Crocker to make a butterfly cake. Looking at the picture, it looks difficult. Actually, the decorating sounds easy with pastel sugar sprinkles, candy and decorator gel. It's something to think about.

Hmm...this is cute, but I still like the cupcake-in-a-cone idea better!! Why not stop by a local bakery and ask what the solution would be for the cones? HEY!! I bet I could ask Cyndi- the woman that made Alise's b'day cake - and she might could help! Would you like for me to do that?
Yeah, I know. The next problem I had was keeping the cones to stand up. They are top heavy as you can imagine. I read where I could make my own holder by using heavy duty aluminum foil. I just can't imagine how I'm going to keep the holder sturdy being made of HD Aluminum Foil. I have to keep a deepth of 2". Ugh! I might end up putting more money into this than expected. Surely, a retail store would sell something like this to accommodate. The Joy brand name ice cream cups were advertising a tray for $17.99 by mail. I'll need 2 and I'm afraid they won't get here in time for the party. I'll check out Target and Walmart for this tray. Maybe I'll find a couple. Ugh!
Laura, it would be great if you could ask your friend what I could do differently. Thanks!
